How to make a duck call

There exist very few tutorials on how to make a duck call. I think that's because callmaking involves so many skills that aren't easily teachable. For example, besides the obvious woodworking skills, a successful callmaker is part artist, part musician, and part innovator. The best I can do is provide the basic steps and leave the rest up to you.

Among callmakers, many differences exist in even the basic procedures. It should be understood that the following steps are the way I began making calls. It is certainly not the only way, and it may not be the most efficient way, but it worked for me for several years. Since the pictures were taken, I have upgraded some of the equipment, and the wooden jig has been replaced with hardened steel, but the basic steps remain the same.
